Have you heard? The Hero Arts website is getting a whole new look September 1st. We can’t wait to share it all with you. Soon…very soon!
In anticipation of the website makeover, we thought it would be fun to host a challenge with that same theme in mind. So starting today and continuing through September 20th, we invite you to give one of your old projects a makeover. Take a trip down memory lane, select an existing project as inspiration, and change it up somehow to create a new project. Change it a little or a lot…it’s totally up to you! The most important thing is to have fun in the process.
All project types are welcome — cards, tags, scrapbook pages, mixed media, DIY projects, etc.
Please use at least one Hero Arts stamp, die, or digital image on each project you submit.
We’d love to see photos of both your old (before) and new (after) projects.
BIG PRIZES! At the conclusion of the challenge, we will select four winners (three of our favorite projects; one randomly chosen) and award each a $50 Hero Arts Online Store shopping spree with free shipping. Winners will be able to select any products offered in the new online store (coming September 1st!)
Ready to join the fun? Enter up to five different projects, now through September 20, 2015, by adding your new project links below via the InLinkz tool. (Look for the blue “Add Your Link” button.)

What I like about this style of cards is that, once you have decided the design, they are very quick to make and replicate. This style also embraces the use of white space, which makes your cards look clean and elegant. For this card, I used a plain white card base, and I simply stamped the flower using two different ink colors. The sentiment was stamped on a paper strip, and I used it as a second layer over the stamped flowers. At the end, I embellished the card with a few gemstones and pearls.
If you have not tried this style yet, I recommend you to do it. At the beginning, it can be hard trying not to use all those inks, stamps, and tools that you have, but once you understand the concept, you will love making clean and simple cards.
Hello everyone! Do you love to make your own custom backgrounds? I do and I can never have enough of them! This time I’m experimenting with sentiment stamps from Lia Griffith and stamping several patterns using grey, blue and black inks.
I intentionally chose stamps from Lia for the fun and playful handwritten fonts. I didn’t want these sentiments to appear as sentiments on my stamped backgrounds but rather as design elements. To achieve this and to make them somewhat hard to read I stamped them a little bit at an angle.
I used a new color combo for me - black, grey, light blue and a hint of gold. One of my backgrounds was stamped using Soft Pool, another one using Charcoal and the last one combined both plus black. You can learn more about using sentiment stamps to make a background in my video below:
If you are having problems viewing the video, please try watching it HERE on YouTube.
Have you tried the pigment ink cubes from Lia’s collection? They provide beautiful coverage and bright, crisp impressions every time. Choose from Color Lights, Color Brights, or Color Jewels. You can see several colors in action on this happy card Kelly created.
Wrapping a gift? Lia’s floral dies allow you to create gorgeous, dimensional paper flowers that you can use in place of traditional bows. And how about DIY wedding projects? These are perfect. Click here to check out tutorials for all four varieties.
We can’t get enough of these 6×6 Bold Prints background stamps Lia designed. They’ve quickly become staples. You’ll find five different backgrounds in the shop, from arrows and flowers to woodgrain and dots.
And that’s just 12 of the 28 products included in the sale! There’s so much more to see, so be sure to check it all out right here in the shop. No code is required for this sale.
Another one of my favorites? The fun Tassels set in the Summer Catalog. I love that you can stamp each tassel separately, going every which way. And the messages in the set are great, too. But today, instead of using them, I wanted to give this Happy Birthday to You woodblock message stamp a little love.
Happy Wednesday! With the start of a new school year just one week away for my kids, today I’m sharing a card that can be made ahead of time to have on hand for a special teacher. Better yet…several special teachers! This design could easily be created assembly line style.
I used selective inking to stamp just the word “thanks” from the Thanks for Being You stamp and then added “you’re one in a million” from the Shoot for the Moon set underneath. I love mixing and matching messages in this way.
After the message was complete, the apple was stamped and clear embossed right over the top, then colored with Ink Daubers. Daubers make for super quick and easy watercoloring — just tap onto an acrylic block, mist with water, and paint. The clear embossing keeps the ink inside the lines. Wipe the block clean and you’re done!
Hello and welcome to another Hero Arts Web Design Team Rewind, where weshare a sampling of our favorite projects shared on the designers’ personal blogs over the past month!
This month we’d like to highlight a few posts where our creative team showed just how excellent they are at teaching! First is a really fun post from Yana, who shared how to color in stamped images using other stamps! Be sure to visit her blog and check out the video tutorial - it’s fantastic, as usual! We love how the Baby Animals look when they are colored in with Graphic Flowers, and would you believe, fruit and vegetables??
Mariana shared these absolutely adorable party straw tags, featuring the Baby Elephant woodblock stamp as well as messages from Little One. How sweet would these be at a baby shower? Mariana shared step by step photos to explain how to attach the tags to the straws on her blog post.
And last but not least, a wonderfully informative post from Yana, where she shared her favorite color combos when stamping the Color Layering Bird and Branch set. We really love how Mr. Bird looks in purple!
We hope you’ve enjoyed today’s summary! Be sure to visit the artists’ blogs regularly for more ideas and inspiration! You can find all of the links for the team over on the sidebar.
